I’ve been seeing a lot of top siders and loafers lately and I’m loving it. It’s a great casual summertime look that can translate into fall, as well.
For a classic loafer or Weejun G.H. Bass & Co. makes some of the best. If you prefer a Wallabee, check out Clarks traditional version. And, of course, there’s nothing like the authentic Sperry brand for a great quality shoe.
On the other hand, as opposed to the classics, when I was in Japan last week I was especially into the customized loafers I saw on the street. Some guys added studs, some put buckles on a Wallabee, everyone was original. Japan is an exciting country to see the unique use of color and personalization of men’s clothing and the streets of Tokyo are filled with a kaleidoscope of individuality. Japanese men are some of the most fashion-forward dudes I’ve ever met. We Americans can only hope to follow in their footsteps.
